What is the OTPF-3?

The OTPF-3 is described as the as the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. This is kind of the go-to when it comes to our profession. It is a summary and construct of ideas in the profession of occupational therapy. It is not like a medical model protocol, but more of a holistic guide on how to treat a client within the field of occupational therapy.

Purpose:
·     Establish a common language
·     Improve standard of communication
·     Focus on occupation, health & wellness
·     Guide evaluation, intervention, & outcomes
·     Highlight OT’s scope of practice
·     Align with language used by the WHO, including ICD billing codes

It is important to know and understand the OTPF because it will be used frequently to guide myself and other practitioners in the field. It is a break down on the process of OT, what occupations are, what to consider when treating a client and much more. The OTPF is the OT bible. Not only is this framework available to practitioners, but is is also useful and available to students, professors and teachers and even researches.
