OT 425 Knowledge Check

Assistive Technology:
Assistive technology is something that could benefit everyone. You don't have to have a severe disability or only be an adult or child to benefit or use assistive technology. Assistive technology is categorized from low, medium and high tech. Low could be a simple grip on a pencil and high could be a technological device that requires in depth training. Regardless of who you are, what your disability is, or how much AT you need, everyone can still benefit and use the assistance of assistive technology.

Home Health OT Podcast:
This podcast was discussed with a current home health occupational therapist. One of the most important things mentioned was that OT's really shine in being able to see the big functional picture. In most settings, the client is coming to you, in home health, you are going to the client. This opens up such a larger avenue for not only client but also the OT to shine. How much more "occupation" based can you get other than going to someones home where most daily occupations and ADL's are performed? That is why home health is such an important role in the field of occupational therapy. It is so important to a client to be able to shower, bathe, cook, toilet, groom, sleep, have leisure time etc. in an enjoyable way with the most functional occupational performance possible. In my opinion, Home health OT really will push the client-centeredness along with a therapeutic relationship that will not only benefit the client, but also the OT as a practitioner. One day in the future, I hope I can experience that scope of home health in my own practice.
